Calling all hospitable people who live in the DC area!
Do you have a couch, futon, or floor space that you could lend to a fellow dancer coming from out of town for DCLX? If you do, then please let us know! Having dancers come from near and far is what makes this event so amazing, but we will need all the help we can get to make sure our out-of-towners have a place to rest their heads at night (or early in the morning if they stay at the late nights as late as we’ll let them!). And on top of helping to make this event as amazing as ever, you will be entered for a chance to win 2 free passes to see Bria Skonberg on June 21st at Glen Echo Park hosted by DCLX for every person you host through the DCLX hosting program!
How do you sign up you say? Well, we’re glad you asked! Once you have registered for DCLX and confirmed your email, login to the DCLX system, and click on the “Housing” tab. Select the “Be a Host” button, and fill out the form. Then keep an eye out for emails coming from the DCLX Housing Committee regarding the eternally grateful dancers who will be staying with you. Finally, dream about how amazing it would be to get to see Bria Skonberg for free if you were the lucky winner of the 2 tickets to her show on June 21st… That’s all! Thanks in advance, and be sure to let us know if you have any questions about the housing process!
If for some reason you have not registered for DCLX yet, now is the time! Register and pay for your ticket by Saturday, 3/15 at 11:59PM and not only will you be saving yourself some cash, as the price increases to $80 after 3/15, but you will also be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a WEEKEND PASS to DCLX!! You heard us right, the entire weekend – FREE. So for all you procrastinators out there, end your procrastination right now (or by 3/15 if you insist on procrastinating a while longer) and get yourself to DCLX’s registration page – it’s that tab right up there that says “Register.” After the deadline, we’ll draw one lucky winner for a priceless weekend here at DCLX!

On another note, thanks for coming out and making our March 1st event DCLX’s most successful Saturday night event to date! Of course, when you have classes taught by the wonderful Mike Thibault and Joanna Kassoulides followed by an evening of dancing to the tunes of Michael Gamble and His Rhythm Serenaders and then top it off with Mike Thibault DJing some of his favorite songs for our dancing delight, you can only expect to have a happy crowd. We got some great feedback from those who attended, so we’ll be sure to make our upcoming events that much better! And a huge thanks to all of our special guests, Jerry Almonte for DJing the main dance, and all of our volunteers who made the event possible.
Both are all about partying hard and letting the good times roll, and both feature Smoking Time’s killer jazz! Today is Fat Tuesday, and part of your DCLX lineup is playing at THE Spotted Cat in New Orleans tonight at 10 pm! Soon to be the center of a grand carnival of dancing and delight of all colors, Smoking Time Jazz Club is lighting up Frenchmen St. tonight and who knows where the dancers will swing them out next?!
So in case you’re still debating whether you should join us this Saturday, March 1st the exciting things we have lined up for you, just sit back and relax while we help you make up your mind:
Starting at 1pm, you’ll have the chance to take 4 hours of workshops with the amazing Mike Thibault and Joanna Kassoulides in the Spanish Ballroom at Glen Echo Park! When is the next time you will have the chance to learn from the mastermind behind the event known as Stompology, who also happens to be the Organizer of Swing Out New Hampshire and one of the founding members of Groove Juice Swing in Rochester, NY? And who better to learn from than the “chief confectioner” behind the Sugar Shakers, an all-female 1920s solo dance performance group based in Toronto, Canada, to find that confidence boost your dancing needs? You’re not going to find another deal like this for quite a while, so better come out this weekend to see what these fabulous dancers are all about before the chance passes you by!
If you’re still not convinced to come out and join us this weekend, we’ve still got a few more cards up our sleeve. Coming all the way from Ashville, NC, Michael Gamble and his Rhythm Serenaders will be playing their hearts out starting at 9pm for our evening of social dancing! This fabulous group is dedicated to the sound of the mid-to-late 1940s music, drawing their inspiration from the small jazz groups of this era such as those led by Count Basie and Duke Ellington. And the group’s leader, Michael Gamble, is a Renaissance man when it comes to the world of swing dance, so he knows exactly what dancers like us are looking for in a night of live music!
And if you still haven’t had enough by the time the Rhythm Serenaders step off the stage at midnight, join us for our Late Night dance right next door in the Back Room for another couple of hours DJed by the one and only Mike Thibault!
Now that you are completely convinced that you could not possibly go on living if you missed any of these awesome events, all that’s left for you to do is to figure out how to get yourself to Glen Echo Park for all of this excitement.
Can’t wait to swing out with you this Saturday!
