On another note, thanks for coming out and making our March 1st event DCLX’s most successful Saturday night event to date! Of course, when you have classes taught by the wonderful Mike Thibault and Joanna Kassoulides followed by an evening of dancing to the tunes of Michael Gamble and His Rhythm Serenaders and then top it off with Mike Thibault DJing some of his favorite songs for our dancing delight, you can only expect to have a happy crowd. We got some great feedback from those who attended, so we’ll be sure to make our upcoming events that much better! And a huge thanks to all of our special guests, Jerry Almonte for DJing the main dance, and all of our volunteers who made the event possible.

March 1st Events

So in case you’re still debating whether you should join us this Saturday, March 1st the exciting things we have lined up for you, just sit back and relax while we help you make up your mind:

Mike Thibault and Joanna Kassoulides

Starting at 1pm, you’ll have the chance to take 4 hours of workshops with the amazing Mike Thibault and Joanna Kassoulides in the Spanish Ballroom at Glen Echo Park! When is the next time you will have the chance to learn from the mastermind behind the event known as Stompology, who also happens to be the Organizer of Swing Out New Hampshire and one of the founding members of Groove Juice Swing in Rochester, NY? And who better to learn from than the “chief confectioner” behind the Sugar Shakers, an all-female 1920s solo dance performance group based in Toronto, Canada, to find that confidence boost your dancing needs? You’re not going to find another deal like this for quite a while, so better come out this weekend to see what these fabulous dancers are all about before the chance passes you by!

If you’re still not convinced to come out and join us this weekend, we’ve still got a few more cards up our sleeve. Coming all the way from Ashville, NC, Michael Gamble and his Rhythm Serenaders will be playing their hearts out starting at 9pm for our evening of social dancing! This fabulous group is dedicated to the sound of the mid-to-late 1940s music, drawing their inspiration from the small jazz groups of this era such as those led by Count Basie and Duke Ellington. And the group’s leader, Michael Gamble, is a Renaissance man when it comes to the world of swing dance, so he knows exactly what dancers like us are looking for in a night of live music!

Michael Gamble and His Rhythm Serenaders

And if you still haven’t had enough by the time the Rhythm Serenaders step off the stage at midnight, join us for our Late Night dance right next door in the Back Room for another couple of hours DJed by the one and only Mike Thibault!

Now that you are completely convinced that you could not possibly go on living if you missed any of these awesome events, all that’s left for you to do is to figure out how to get yourself to Glen Echo Park for all of this excitement.

Lesson: 8 to 9 pm, free with paid admission.
Dance: 9 pm to midnight.

This dance is presented in cooperation with Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts and Culture, the National Park Service and Montgomery County, MD.
